Actress UMA THURMAN is facing a legal battle from French cosmetics giant Lancome - after the actress launched a bid for compensation against them.
The Kill Bill star signed a two-year deal with the brand in 2000, with Lancome agreeing to pay her $5.8 million (GBP2.9 million) for the first two years and $3.1 million (GBP1.55 million) for each additional year, if the company exercised its option.
Court papers were filed on Wednesday (07May08) in Manhattan Supreme Court, asking for a ruling against Thurman, who it alleges is demanding $1 million (GBP500,000) for unauthorised use of her name and face on Canadian billboards and Asian web sites after her contract expired.
Betram Fields, the star's lawyer, says, "I thought we were negotiating in good faith. I guess the French decided to strike a pre-emptive blow.
"I'm delighted that the case will go before a jury. They got an enormous benefit throughout the world after the contract was over, and $1 million doesn't begin to do it."
The seemingly endless list of films to receive a remake is set to get another addition, as it has emerged that cult fantasy flick HIGHLANDER is to get a makeover.
The 1986 film is to be given an overhaul with a screenplay written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, fresh from their success on Jon Favreau's blockbuster hit IRON MAN.
Speaking to reporters at Cannes Film Festival, Patrick Wachsberger of Summit Entertainment, which has bought worldwide rights to the franchise, said: "I have been a huge fan of the original HIGHLANDER and of its mythology.
"I have always dreamed of reinventing this franchise; as a brand it is hard to think of one which has greater worldwide recognition with audiences - young and old."
The original film gave way to four sequels, all of which featured French actor Christopher Lambert, as well as a television series and other spin-offs.
As yet, no casting details have been made available.

Hollywood actor RYAN PHILLIPPE has found a way to turn the paparazzi to his advantage - by using them to promote his favourite charities.
The Crash star now insists on wearing a t-shirt with the website address of various good causes plastered across the chest - so when the pictures appear in the media, the charity receives free publicity worldwide.
And Phillippe is proud that he has been able to use the constant attention of the media to benefit the charities.
He says, "These pictures go around the world and untold numbers of people see them. One organisation told me their web hits went up 2,000 per cent overnight after one such image was syndicated."
