The seemingly endless list of films to receive a remake is set to get another addition, as it has emerged that cult fantasy flick HIGHLANDER is to get a makeover.
The 1986 film is to be given an overhaul with a screenplay written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, fresh from their success on Jon Favreau's blockbuster hit IRON MAN.
Speaking to reporters at Cannes Film Festival, Patrick Wachsberger of Summit Entertainment, which has bought worldwide rights to the franchise, said: "I have been a huge fan of the original HIGHLANDER and of its mythology.
"I have always dreamed of reinventing this franchise; as a brand it is hard to think of one which has greater worldwide recognition with audiences - young and old."
The original film gave way to four sequels, all of which featured French actor Christopher Lambert, as well as a television series and other spin-offs.
As yet, no casting details have been made available.
